In FUT surgery, a strip of scalp is taken from the back of the head and individual hair follicles are extracted from it. These follicles are then inserted into the balding parts of the scalp in a pattern that looks natural.

The Donor region is then closed with sutures and antibiotic and bandages are applied to the scalp.
